Develop a view and advocate on possible changes to energy regulation and markets to support a merged gas and electricity objective (NECF) and flow on regulations/rules.

Given the close links between hydrogen and energy markets and the ability for hydrogen to serve stationary energy needs currently met by electricity and natural gas, Working Group 2 is active across a range of consultative processes.
These range from network planning processes (primarily the AEMO ISP process) through to energy rules and state based schemes relating to the use of hydrogen for generation or targets for replacing fossil fuels with clean hydrogen. The WG explores the role that hydrogen plans in coupling the gas and electricity sectors and seeks to develop the right market settings so that hydrogen is deployed and transported in its most practical form to meet Australia’s energy needs.

3. AEMO work and progress of the 2024 ISP
4. Renewable fuel initiatives:
Note that WG2 includes representatives from the AEMC. This engagement allows members and the AEMC to have open channels of communication to discuss the various challenges of hydrogen in our gas and electricity markets.
