Alana Barlow is an experienced business development executive in the hydrogen energy sector. Working as the National Hydrogen Commercialisation Manager at Sumitomo Australia, she leads the Japanese trading house’s hydrogen strategy and project development in Australia. Alana is also a director of Sumitomo’s Australian hydrogen subsidiaries.
Alana’s work in the hydrogen industry has focused on domestic decarbonization in hard to abate sectors, and hydrogen derivatives for export markets. Some of the initiatives lead by Alana include regional preliminary master planning for enabling hydrogen ecosystem infrastructure, developing green shipping corridors for Australia and New Zealand, as well as leading the Rio Tinto and Sumitomo, Yarwun Hydrogen Calcination Pilot Demonstration Program to FID and delivery.
Prior to joining the hydrogen industry, Alana worked as an Australian commercial lawyer and company secretarial professional in a variety sectors including power generation and infrastructure, mineral resources, and diverse international trade.
Alana holds a Bachelor of Laws, and is admitted to the NSW Supreme Court Roll of Lawyers.
Alana was voted on to the board of the Australian Hydrogen Council in 2023.
