As part of the Government’s Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Roadmap, the Government is working with the maritime industry to develop a Maritime Emissions Reduction National Action Plan (MERNAP).

Informed by an industry co-design approach, the MERNAP will set the strategic direction and commitments to actions to decarbonise our maritime transport sector and contribute towards reducing international shipping emissions.

The plan will seek to identify opportunities and future-proof the maritime industry, ensuring Australia can benefit from the global zero emissions transition.

The Australian Government will publish a series of issues papers on a range of topics related to maritime decarbonisation. These papers will be uploaded to this page for consultation. Please regularly check this page for consultation paper release dates and further updates on the development of the National Plan.

The first issues paper the Department has developed is on the topic of Regulation and standards. Consultation for this paper will be open until Friday 22 September. The paper can be accessed here: MERNAP Issues Paper: Regulation and Standards PDF 394KB.
